Everyone desires today's youth to be respectful, less self-focused and develop empathy, understanding and acceptance of others. One activity has been producing those effects for years- volunteerism. Listen as teen-agers describe why they became a volunteer, the work they do, the best part of volunteering and benefits they receive through work. Leaders highlight what student volunteers bring to their organizations and discuss the future of volunteerism. You will explore ways schools use service learning to strengthen classroom knowledge, while adding character education to their curriculum. Students also see how work in service organizations can greatly expand their education and career opportunities. A supplement is included.
