Logging has the highest annual deaths related to work injury in the United States. This presentation illustrates the importance of practicing safety in the forest, as well as outlining ways in which to commit to safety. Common safety hazards and dangerous equipment, such as falling wood, frequent use of saws/large equipment, sharp blades/tools and high tension cables, are identified, and accident prevention and first aid practices are outlined. Factors (e.g., heat rash, sunburn, immersion foot, trenchfoot, bear encounters, etc.) of dealing with heat, cold, plants and wildlife while working are also detailed.
