The forestry market relies solely on the ability of producers to generate high volumes of usable timber. This presentation explores best management practices (BMPs), such as improvement cutting, selection cutting and timber stand improvements, utilized in growing, selecting and harvesting quality timber. The benefits (e.g., shading, stabilization, filtration, etc.) of streamside management zones (SMZs) are discussed. The culling process is analyzed and the importance of these cuts is described.
