The learning tour takes us to the Champion International Paper Mill in Lufkin, Texas. Producing more than 1200 tons of paper per day, the mill supplies nearly eight percent of the newsprint used in the United States. Viewers are introduced to three methods used to transform pulp into paper: the "kraft" method, the ground wood method and the recycled paper method. You will see slasher saws, debarking, chipping, digesting and bleaching of the wood logs. Then, watch how cleaning, pressing, drying, rolling and wrapping turns wood pulp into newsprint. A supplement is included.
